I am giving my old MacBook Air to my wife and I signed out of my account and deleted the account from "Messages" in OS. I then signed in to my wife's account and any new message for her comes in but it still shows all of my old messages from my account. How do I get rid of those?

To delete all messages at once:
1. Click Finder, then choose Go > Go to Folder (⇧⌘G), and paste this path: ~/Library/Messages
2. Move all its content to Trash, and empty it
3. Log Out and Log In again

Are you using the same account? Why not just create a new account for her and remove your old one? Done and done.

I did remove my account. Added hers but my messages still remain.

Removed it from internet accounts and through messages. Her messages will not sync wither. Only new messages come in.

Just so we are on the same page, when you said "removed my account", this was via System Preferences > Users & Groups?

no. I went to internet accounts under system preferences and hit the minus sign to remove my iCloud account. I did sign out of my account in messages also. I then added my wife’s account under internet accounts by clicking the plus sign and then signed in my wife’s account in messages. Sorry for the confusion

please suggest an alternative way and I will gladly do that.

Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups. Click the "+" and create the new account. Done.

If want to delete the old account, sign into the new account and repeat above, but this time, click "-".

This is really the way to go as the existing account will have other data that might pop-up as much of the files/data is cached within the account library structure.

So I reformatted and then set it up for my wife. Messages still not synced. It is syncing email now
