After a week, with my new mac, I can notice some lightly out of color steins on my MBPR, and I'm afraid water will wipe out the color.

What, a white Stein like this?

My 2010 MBP was looking a little dirty around the wrist rest area. I took a slightly damp microfibre cleaning cloth and wiped with a little pressure around the area.

The dirt came right off and made the area look all shiny and new again.

I do this every couple months or so and I haven't experienced any discolouration of the aluminium.

I go get that too. What is it anyway? I think it's sweat from hands and fingers?

I just use micro cloth to wipe it or maybe add a little hand wiping alcohol.

It's most likely sweat from your palms that eats away at the aluminum and causes discoloration. Clean it daily with a damp cloth and wash your hands!
