How to get ride of Downloaded Apps.

I have downloaded mac the ripper. The .dmg file is on my desktop. Is that file safe to move to the trash? when i move it into my application folder. I get the little tiny arrow that tells me its a short cut. I want the proper icon in there.

Also the icon for the app is there, when i right click, it says eject. what does this do?

Basically i want know how i can D/L the app. have it work. but, i don't want any reminisce on my desktop. I dont want any icons on the desktop.

1 Download the .dmg
2 Double click on it to mount it.
3 Copy the app out of the .dmg and into your Application folder
4 Unmount (eject) and delete the .dmg
