How to get the iTunes library & playlist to work from my new externsl drive

HELP!!!!
I'm ready to throw in the towel....
Just transferred ALL my iTunes library files from my old external hard drive
to my new one....
The iTunes library won't recognize the data from the new drive!!
I haven't changed the computer!!
All I did was moved my data that no longer had space on my old drive
to a new drive....
SO....
1. What do I do to make the library recognize it?
AND THE MILION $$$ QUESTION....
2. Can I keep my old playlist or do I have to start from zero again?
I have gazillons of songs.... It will seriously be a pain in the butt!!

Did you tell iTunes where the location of the new library is?

Preferences-->Advanced-->iTunes Media Folder Location

Apple's method is way too complex.

1. Move iTunes folder to new drive.
2. Hold down option when launching iTunes
3. Browse to new library location

All done.
