Apple is offering up to six months of Apple Music for free to Shazam users, in what looks like a limited-time deal for the holdays.

First spotted by Macworld UK, the trial offer currently available appears to vary in length depending on where you're located and whether you've redeemed a free trial of Apple Music in the past.

However, if you're in the U.S., Canada, or the United Kingdom, then you should be able to get at least a month of free access out of it - and perhaps more - even if you've used an Apple Music free trial before. Here's how it works.

  1. Download the free Shazam app for iOS from the App Store.
  2. Launch the app on your iPhone or iPad.
  3. Swipe right to enter the Library screen, or tap the Library icon in the top-left corner of the screen.

Tap the Try Now pane offering a free trial of Apple Music for a 'Limited Time.'
  4. Tap the Try it Free button.
  5. You'll be switched to the App Store to redeem a pre-entered code. Tap Redeem, and you'll be notified of the length of your free trial and the date from which you'll make your first monthly payment if you continue with the subscription.
If you're wary of over-running the free trial, put a date in your diary to remind you when to cancel it. For steps on how to cancel an Apple Music subscription, click here.

Works for me in Germany. Got three months for free even though I already had the free trial when Apple Music started.

I didn’t have to download it, I already had it. No “try now” pane :(

Went to settings, disconnected from Spotify because it was the only thing I could think to try... quit, re-launched, swipe right: 6 month offer :) Redeemed, 6 months. Never took a trial before. U.S. here.

I’ve never subscribed to any trials or subs. I was offered the 6 months and accepted. It expires June 23, 2020.

I got the full 6 months offered. I had to unlink my Spotify from the Shazam app first, then force-close, and relaunch, and it was there.

But I'm a happy with Spotify, so I'm not going to use the trial. Too bad there's no way to get the code out of it and give it to someone else.

Said 4 months free, Try Now. Went through the steps and only got 1 month. So much for the spirit of the Holidays!

I wasn't offered anything. I've never had Apple Music and am US based...It's too bad b/c I'm currently going testing between Amazon Music, Google Music and Spottily to see which one I'm going to use in 2020.

In that case you can just use the normal free trial offer for new users.

It is possible to get the code. When the popup shows to redeem X months of Apple Music just hit cancel. Then you’ll get a redeem code window that shows your code.

lol - give away as many free trials as you want, Apple - it won't stop Apple Music being total crap. I gave it yet another go recently and canceled the trial after 24 hours. Airplay to Sonos speakers was crap; for example playback stopped if I was looking at a video in Twitter - that doesn't happen with Spotify connect. Content all over the shop and in different apps, some of which make no sense. With Spotify, you open the one app and you've got music, podcast and audiobooks at your fingertips (Apple wouldn't be able to change me separately for listening to stand-up comedy unless it was in a different app, I suppose).

I just can't see anything development on the app. Who TF is in charge of it?

Odd ... I like it.
