How to get vids from my phone to my laptop?

Hi there,
Im having trouble getting videos I have taken with my iphone 4 onto my laptop. I can only email a portion of them, as they are mostly quite long or else upload to youtube, which I dont want to do.
I do have Itunes in sync with my iphone but have no idea how to get vids and pics from the phone onto the computer.
Any help would be most appreciated

When you plug your iphone into your PC/Mac, your computer should read the the phone as if it was a camera. So you should be able to put the contents of your camera roll to the location of your choice on your PC.

How do I do that? I plug in my iphone and sync with itunes but there is no option of copying my vids and pics onto the computer?
