How to have a name appear instead of the email sender's address?

A friend of mine uses an email without a name. When I get emails, they show up in my lockscreen as being from "friend123@domain.com"

Can I change this so that it simple shows as being from "Friend" in the lockscreen? I tried adding as a contact, but that didnt work.
