How to hide the Menu bar at the top?

I have "learned" a lot about Macs now. There is only problem I have left.

How do you hide the menu bar at the top? This is REALLY getting on my nerves. When I have wallpaper that I design being covered up by the bar is annoying to me. Are there any apps that can hide it?
