How to highlight lines containing text string

I am a recently converted Mac user and I am trying to find a way to work within a text document and highlight all lines containing certain text.
Much the same way that UltraEdit does in Win.
Can't seem to find a way using Textedit or Texmate or Pages.
Surely, there is a simple way to do this ?
