I have the following reciever :Denon AVR-1706 how can i hook up my macbookpro/ipod up too it and have theater surround sound?!

You can use for your MBP the optical in, or a simple 3.5 mm to 2x RCA plug (analog). You can use this plug also for your iPod. When using analog you can't have cinema sound. Using the optical it should be possible, but I don't know if Apple supports it in its programs.

go wireless

suggest you get yourself an airport express and connect up that way... by doing that, you'll be untethered from you amplifier

also, you might want to get airfoil, which allows any application to transmit sounds wirelessly

But you do have a couple of seconds delay in the sound. It would be hard if you are playing a DVD from your laptop and stream the sound through your speakers wireless using Airfoil... Also this will only be stereo sound, when using an optical cable you could (I believe) get 5.1.

that is definately true...

Can't i just use a 3.5mm two way connector one for my headphone jack and the other plug into the reciever?!?!

or how about using a Y adapdtor??
