How to I connect external 2.1 speakers to my MBA?

I want to buy speakers, preferably active or possibly passive (if required), and I want everything to be connected to the MBA.
And an important detail: my plan is to connect the M-Audio BX5-D2's with my Logitech X-540 Subwoofer - to the MBA.
Any solutions?

I imagine if the 2.1 speakers you are wanting to buy have a 3.5 mm jack, then hook it up to the MBA's headphone jack.

Some speaker systems for PCs have a USB connection.

Almost all speaker systems I have come across have the 3.5mm. I would use that personally.
