How to import captions into iPhoto?

I used to have a iBook, but it died and I had to start using a PC for work so transferred to that. After four years, I'm finally back with a MacBook Pro. Before the old iBook died, I copied the photos and extensive captions to an external hard drive. The captions are in XML format. I imported the photos to iPhoto on the new MacBook, but none of the captions came with it. Do you know how I can import the captions? The files that I saved from the old iPhoto library include Library.data, Dir.data, and AlbumData.xml.
