Please help...Trying to get the raw footage off of the tape onto a mac...I also have a pc. I will use either or whatever you can help me with..Basically what I am trying to do is take the videos I recorded and put them onto Youtube...All help is appreciated..Thanks.

Use iMovie to capture and edit the footage. If you have a Mac, it should come with it, the iLife suite is on the installation DVDs that came with your Mac.

As the camera seems to be MiniDV, the footage is in SD (Standard Definition in PAL or NTSC), so it shouldn't be a problem even for an old computer.

Use a Firewire cable (4pin to 6pin) to connect the camcorder (4pin) to the Mac (6pin).

What Mac do you have?

Use Firewire.

Make sure your camera is in 'VCR/Playback' mode. If iMovie does not recognize it… close iMovie, plug in your camera, then start iMovie.

In iMovie, you should be in camera mode; not editing mode. If all else fails, RTFM. :)

I have a JVC Mini DV Model NO. GR-D90 U and I have the firewire cable hooked up to the mac mini and my cam corder and it says it can not find the camera??? please help...

Did you follow neut's steps?

Camera on and in VTR/Playback mode, then start iMovie?

And what does the manual say about this?

Maybe you have to enable the DV-Out (the Firewire output).

JVC camcorder v. You

I have one of these units and its not an intuitive operating
product.
1) you must select in the camera menu seen on the LCD
screen to S/AV input A/V.IN or out
2) you can only get it to operate by means of the remote
control...using the red button on the remote.
