Hey everyone,

I managed to work out a really simple solution for this and I couldn't find a guide for it anywhere. I was able to add an auxiliary PSU without soldering and without drilling into the Mac Pro.

Here is what you will need:

  • ATX or SFX PSU: SFX units are smaller and much more practical for cable management.
  • Add2PSU: This is what you'll use to link the two power supplies.
  • SATA power extension cable: To connect the power from the optical drive bay.
The Tutorial: It's very simple. Just connect the SATA power extension cable from your optical bay's SATA power to the Add2PSU. Then, connect the ATX or SFX PSU cable to the Add2PSU. The last step is to pass the power cord through the DVD lid, and you're good to go. No drilling and no soldering required!
