Newbie here, so apologies if this topic is not allowed here, but I thought i'll ask.

first, the app in question is free, but was updated with some new but not improved features. Wish to downgrade the app back to the previous version but have deleted on the older file (yes, it's gone from the thrash).

Got the older version of the app again from a buddy, but I can't seem to load it in to my jailbroken iphone. Need authorization. Is there anyway to do this without the authorization from the original owner of the file?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

not sure but i think you would need to autorize his ID on your device then once you get the app on you might have to re-authorize your real ID back on your device

I guess that would sort of be an ok reason to look at installous?

You might be far better off to contact the dev and give feedback on what you don't like, suggestions to improve etc. Then look forward to using the new one.

Thx guys for the prompt reply.

Getting the Apple ID is a no-no. My buddy and I are in different countries & I don't want to put him in a spot by asking his ID.

Installous is no go since they have the updated file there too.

As for writing to the dev team, already done that many moons ago, but no changes there.

Any other suggestions?

Again thanks for helping.

Do you use TimeMachine or any other backup solution? If so, you may be able to retrieve the old ipa file.

You need to authorize your computer with his iTunes account, then you can install it on your phone. So you need both email address and password to do so.

If he doesn't want to give you his password, tell him to create a temporary one for an hour so you can authorize and have him change it back, you just wont ever be able to update.

Contact the dev and see if he will send you the version you want. This is the legal way to do it.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

ID & password are pretty sensitive & I would not pass mine out (even if it's a temp & can change it later), so I don't want to ask for his. Besides, he did that once with another person and he regretted it. So that's out of the question.

I'm using a mac running 10.6.7. Never thought I would need the older file of the app since the new one was supposed to be better, hence I emptied the thrash without a second thought.:(

I don't use Installous much. how do I go about looking for older versions of an app. When I tried searching for the app, it only showed the latest version. Since this is a free app, I don't think they would keep the older versions.

This is embarrassing:eek:, but how do I PM someone in the forum.

Installous does have free apps, I accidentally updated to a newer version of Pandora that fixed the skip hack, so I reverted back to an older version.

I've never seen a free app in Installous

Pandora is a popular free app people get from Installous. With certain older versions you can install a tweak that blocks ads and allows for unlimited skips.

I had Installous while on 4.1 but decided to take a pass this time around when upgrading to 4.3.1. Unfortunately I made that decision just after installing the in******* repo (to get the tweak for Pandora) and even though I've deleted both Installous 4 and In******* repos but the In******* RepoPrep remains and I don't think I can delete it without messing up Cydia. I'm just leaving it alone until the next time I restore as new. Live and learn. :)

Just so it's clear the site didn't edit out the name with asterisk, I did. I know the mods don't like certain places mentioned here.

You can probably delete this out of Cydia via ifile or SSH if you know where to look.

thanks for all the assistance guys. Will try with installous, & if that doesn't work, guess i'm stuck with the newer (but not improved) version.

If any of you find a way to do this, please let me know.

Thanks.

If I try to delete out of Cydia it gives this warning:

this operation involves the removal of one or more packages that are required for the continued operation of either Cydia or iPhone OS. If you continue, you may not be able to use Cydia to repair any damages.

Then the option to cancel or force remove.

Edit - I just read somewhere that it installs icons to the Cydia.app and this is the cause for the warning. I did the force remove and everything is fine.
