how to install perian

not sure if perian is actually working. installed to a preference pane, but no new codecs or downloads show up in the quicktime folder under library (it's empty). wondering how do i know if it's working? .avi files are still not working. thanks for your help.

Two things.

1) Did you check in both Home/Library/Quicktime and Library/Quicktime (from the root of the drive)?

2) In what way are they "not working"? Do they open in Quicktime and not display video and/or audio? Do they not open at all? Do they play in VLC?

k, found Perian.component in home/library/quicktime. i was confused because there was nothing in just library/quicktime. when i open the .avi file it says additional software required for quicktime to play media. it opens, but there is no video/audio. thanks

and yes it plays in VLC
