Hi all, long story short a Monterey 12.7 bug had bricked my M1 Macbook Pro, but I've used Apple Configurator to boot and attempt to install Sonoma, and hopefully, recover all my files.

The problem is I didn't leave enough space on my MBP, and it needs another 8GB of storage to install Sonoma.

So my question is, does anyone have any tips for installing it on an external drive, as I need to head to the Apple store to buy a new one. Is a Thunderbolt 3 drive necessary?

Thank you in advance. Kind of distraught thinking I might have lost all my files so fingers crossed this works. So annoying that I got so close to potentiall fixing my bricked laptop and all I needed was another few gigs of space.

No backup? Lesson learned the hard way.

Not sure how you are going to get an install of macOS on the external unless you have a working Mac to start with… maybe from Recovery?
