On an iBook, a single press of the "F1" key will reduce the brightness. In order to make use of the "F1" key, one has to press the "Fn" key at the bottom of the keyboard.
After installing Ubuntu 16.04, however, these keys are somehow inverted the first time you boot into the system. So a single press of the "F1" key would send the actual "F1" key to the system. In order to use special keys, like brightness and volume, you have to press "Fn". This behavior persists even inside Open Firmware, which makes me think it is not activated only inside the OS, but with an Open Firmware variable.
I am running Void Linux and, after removing the battery for some seconds, all my NVRAM settings dissappeared, including the inverted keys. How can I enable this again? Having to hold "Fn" in order to use the F keys on Linux is very uncomfortable.
