Resolved How to invoke Spotlight Search?

I've read on several sites that one can invoke Spotlight Search in IOS7 by swiping down from the top of any of the home pages. But all that happens when I do that is that the notification center opens. So, obviously, I am doing something wrong or I have missed a setting. Can I buy a clue or two?

This is what I want to see, but I don't see...notice the "search window" at the top of the page. Thanks!:

Drag down from the middle, not from the top. Stumped me too.

Swipe down from the middle of any home screen, not the top.
