Once jailbroken, you need to turn device off and run redsn0w again with just the option "just boot tethered right now" ticked

If your untethered, cydia should open and close straight away, same applies to safari

Right idea, wrong verbage/explanation. If you haven't booted into a tethered state then you will get an unresponsive Cydia/Safari. Being untethered is something completely different :cool:
