How to keep imac from disconnecting from network device when waking out of sleep?

I get my internet on my iMac from another computer which acts as a router. I have no problem manually selecting the device and connecting to it to get the net. However, when the iMac wakes from sleep it is disconnected from it and I have to manually reconnect all over again. Any ideas how I can stop this?
