I am using sequoia with open core and sequoia keep letting me know there an upgrade and I want to block it. Since open core doesn't support Tahoe yet. I don't my Mac to stop working if it upgrades automatically on me and everything get screwed up on me. Thanks for the help.

I keep the System Settings icon in the dock.
It ALWAYS has a "red 1" -- showing that the OS update is "available".

For all practical purposes, you can't "get rid" of this.
Best thing is to develop a thick skin and learn to ignore it (as I do)...

I use Little Snitch (or the free LuLu) to block macOS from contacting any update servers.

There's a way to temporarily remove the red badge on the dock icon, but it will periodically check for updates and see that there is one and put the badge back on.

all my MacBooks and Mac mini have that red for expect MT Lion and Snow Leopard MBA 2010 with 2 separate drives.
(MBA Tahoe.NOV26, macmini Tahoe.Oct MBP 12 & MPB10 Mojave wants Catalina.)

this is a Tim Cook attention w thing that aint going away!
unless ya get a asus zenbook, but windows 11 is not a OS soon/ anymore.

Still working on Monterey:
- Terminal
- defaults write com.apple.systempreferences AttentionPrefBundleIDs 0 && killall Dock

or
Block Apple Updates from Wi-Fi Router - Domain
- appldnld.apple.com
- mesu.apple.com
- Click Advanced Settings > Domain Blocking (or other service that you can block a specific domain), then add the domain of mesu.apple.com or appldnld.apple.com to the block list.
- This will prevent software update from working completely and you will see "Unable to Check for Update" when you click "Software Update"

would the terminal command need to be reversed in order to get security patches and some such? can't you just block it through Lulu instead, I'm starting to get the stupid 'install now/maybe later today' or whatever it says popup almost daily now, is this a new feature on 15.7.2? just bugger the f off!

Iset it to this App updates and Security Responses only. Seems to be better. once open core supports Tahoe then I upgrade to it if only it will run good on my Mac.

Just run the command again if you see the "red 1".
