iOS How to load pictures from the Photo Album?

I'm working on a little game, I would like the end user to load a set of images in a subfolder under the Photo Album so the user can change the look and thems of the game.

is it possible to load the images in a photo album folder to an array then display them in a UIImageview?

As per the documentation the only access to the library seems to be via the image picker controller.
