How to lock your iPhone in landscape mode:

go to: settings > general > acessibility > (turn on) assistive touch
now you have a movable dot (i don't even see it anymore...) somewhere on your screen where you can find a way to flip your phone.
Flipping e.g. a safari page will flip even if orientation is locked, and it will stay flipped even if you turn your phone!
