Hi,

A newbie question...

I can't, for the life of me, work out how to make a cd with a file on it. I've just downloaded the 10.5.7 installer and want to pop it onto cd, but I see anything that would enable me to do that, I've popped a blank in, but beyond that I have no clue... I've tried the help menu, but it doesn't turn up anything sensible...

help!

right click wherever in the finder/desktop->New Burn Folder

Drag everything you want to copy into that folder.

open the burn folder

in the top right there is a little button that says burn. click it!

:)

Burning a CD is so easy it scares new people. Put in the blank CD. When the CD image shows on the desktop, drag whatever files you want to burn to it like it was a folder or remote drive. Double click the CD if you want to name things or just make sure the transfer really happened. When you are ready drag the CD to the trash. The trash will turn to a burn icon and start the recording process. It took me a sec to trust it, and I've used Macs for years. My current laptop is the first with a CD burner built in.

edit: Entering "burn a CD" into the Help menu produced both of the approaches mentioned here. Be sure you are in the Finder when you click Help.

No CD image appeared on desktop when I put the blank in...

The method initially posted has worked however, thanks!

If you don't get a prompt acknowledging insertion of a blank disc, check the CDs & DVDs preferences to make sure it hasn't been set to ignore. Generally for blank discs, the preference is set to "Ask me what to do"
