How to make an Icon?

I have an excel spread sheet I use for my person business. How do I make a customized Icon for the short cut rather than the excel image.

Idealy I would just be able to import an image if that is at all possible.

If you just want to make the odd icon from images then try Pic2icon (there was a newer application on Mac OS X Downloads not too long ago, but I don't remember what it was called. Edit: Must have been FastIcns, but I haven't tried it, yet...)

If you want to make .icns files then Icon Composer (part of Developer Tools) is quite nice...

find the excel icon in the finder, and click it once so that it's highlighted. then press apple + "i". You should see an image of the icon in the upper left corner. Find the image you want to use, copy it, then click the excel icon and paste (apple + "v") the new image in there. hope that works.
