how to make custom firmware without Cydia

is it possible to make custom firmware 5.0.1 without cydia ?
I don't need the Tethered jailbreak just need to preserve baseband

You never use Cydia to MAKE a custom IPSW; either use redsn0w (5.0.1), sn0wbreeze (5.0.1) or pwnagetool (4.x)if you want to make one that preserves your baseband.

I don't need the jailbreak
just want to preserves my baseband
any idea ?

pwnagetool doesn't support 5.0.1
and about custom firmware redsn0w I don't know
any one triad make custom firmware via redsn0w?so after restoring with custom firmware need to jailbreak it?

I think you can simply use tinyumbrella to update and it will preserve the baseband.
