When I went to BestBuy, the Apple section of the store had an iMac, that would announce the name of the song before it played. I asked the Apple rep there and he didn't know how it did that, he told me it came with the computer.

How would I make iTunes do that?

Thanks

Darn. Yano, for only $8-per-hour, I'd gladly announce the name of the song and artist for you. I'd even share bio's and speak the lyrics amelodically. Shatner at home!

It may be an accessibility setting, but if not

There's a script for that on Doug's scripts. http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=itunesannouncerii

Hmm, I don't think that was it; the one at Best Buy said it clearly, it didn't sound like a computer generated voice.

Konfabulator is not Windows-only. It has a whole library of Mac widgets.

Regardless, none of them seem to have the feature I am looking for. Besides, I'm looking for more of a script type thing, not a widget.

It has to have been a computer generated voice, as it was generated by a computer. ;) Do you think they had someone record each song title and artist name?

Have you actually tried the Mac's different voices? Alex is actually quite a bit less "computer generated" than some of the other voices.

Alex does not sound like Stephen Hawking. It's very pleasant. In fact, I use Alex' voice to speak bed time stories to me each night.

Try this and if you can choose which voice to use, try Alex.

Ehh, it's one of the better voices, but I still don't completely like it. Also, is it possible to make it so the AppleScript icon isn't on my dock every time I use this? And is it also possible to make it so I don't have to go to scripts and select this from the menu every time?

I use TuNe. It doesn't announce the name but instead displays the song name, artist, and any associated artwork on top of any window for a specified amount of time (I have mine set to 4 seconds). It is definitely a must-have for any Mac user.

...unless your music is significant and easy to differentiate.

I can only imagine techno/industrial/indie listeners would ever need this.

Can you post or PM me the link to that? I searched Google and I got all of this crap on how to tune a guitar, etc.

Ah yes, meant to post this sooner:

It's likely an actual person's voice that is tacked to each song-file. After all, the songs are pre-loaded so they have a limited number of songs playing and they would know what they are.

Kind of "movie magic", and it's not right to fool the customers like that.

How disappointing.
