With 2K/4K every blemish can be seen by the world so what hacks do people use to get good looking skin in Youtube vlogs/tutorials etc?

I notice some people look way to brushed? blurred? because of the plugin or color settings they're using?

Is it really only about lighting and makeup?

By far the best product is Imagenomic Portraiture. It was long available as a Photoshop and Lightroom plugin, but is now available for video. It is for skin processing what Neat Video is for video noise reduction. Like Neat Video it is very compute-intensive and takes a long time to run but produces excellent results. If used properly it does not look artificial nor soften details such as eye lashes or hair. The benefit is it doesn't require mask painting, brush work, or other trial-and-error application methods.

Digital Anarchy's Beauty Box is also a high quality product, just not as good as Portraiture. It is less expensive: https://digitalanarchy.com/beautyVID/main.html

Besides those two there are cheaper plugins but they don't work as well or are more time-consuming to apply. If a subject looks obviously brushed or blurred those lower-end tools were probably used.
