is there anything i can do to fix songs that sound really old? a friend put a few songs on a data disc for me and they dont sound too great. what can i do?

What does "old" sound like? It would help if you could describe what the sound problems are that you hope to fix.

What is the bitrate of the songs? If they were compressed at a very lossy codec they will sound sub-par or "old"
