Recently I bought a SPACE GRAY AW3 Nike+ 42mm version and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed about how small this watch actually is in reality.. The nearest Apple Store is 300 mi away from where I stay so I just ordered it online thinking 42mm would surely be OK. But the vids on YouTube and pics can be totally misleading.

Coming off a classic 42mm analogue watch (which is a perfect size IMO), the dial on the AW is embarrassingly small, and the watch itself feels small on my medium-sized wrist too... Otherwise I'm liking the watch, its different faces etc., but I'm not sure if I'll be returning it and wait for the Plus version (AW4? AW5??). I really think they should introduce a 46mm model as an option this year.

Anyways - I'm looking for suggestions/tricks on how to make the watch appear slightly bigger on my wrist if I were to keep it.

1. Would adding a wide leather strap (22-24mm) help?
2. Should I go with lighter colors (e.g. light brown)?
3. Add an "SS" bumper case? It seems that silver makes the illusion of slightly bigger vs. SG/black. (I'd definitely want to stay away from fugly thick bumpers though. Only aesthetic/slick cases are acceptable.)

Hi Jon08.

the strap width is 24mm so it has a bigger lug than normal for a 42mm.
Most standard watches have a lug width of 20-22mm for that size.

The AW4 & AW5 etc will most likely be the same size. I would much doubt that they will be any bigger. 42mm is for most the perfect size. Even in analogue watches the craze for 48mm + has reverted back to more normal 42-44 sizes with some suppliers like for e.g. Timex offering mid-size 38mm sizes.

Your suggestion of a something like a cuff bracelet strap would make it look bigger. Hermes on their Apple watch supply the wider cuff strap but you can easily pickup a cheaper equivalent one from one of the on-line sellers.

I recently got a light brown Hermes standard strap style but it looked more tan. It suits the silver AW3 but tend to use the Nike supplied strap.

You have the option of getting your own lug connectors with a spring bar and then being able to add your own strap.

Not too sure what colour to recommend with a Space grey.
And don't know anything about the bumper cases.
I would be interested in what you can source for a lookalike stainless steel cover.

Best of luck with your new purchase. Have mine about 3 weeks and still discovering new things about it. :)

Maybe thicker band and case? Or at least thicker band? My wrists are 6.75" around--so medium. The 42 seemed small at first after wearing Garmin Fenix series and several G-shocks, but overall it is plenty big for most men. The screen could of course be a little bigger. I look forward to the Apple Watch X with face ID......;-)

I would look at Sup protective Case available on Amazon. It will give the Watch a more bulky look and add protection if you want it.
