It seems I hit something that descreased the text size in all of my apps. I'm not talking about zoom settings that can be adjusted with command +-. Nor am I talking about resolution, as my reoslution for my external monitor has only three options, and it is still set to "best for display" as it always has been.
I'm talking about the text that shows up in apps like safari, mail, etc...
how did I accidentally reduce it and how to I make it bigger? so confused! Thanks!

Try pressing Command and the + or - keys on your keyboard when in Mail and Safari, those shortcuts increase & decrease the size of the text. :)

Thanks for the reply but you didn't read my post. :)

That's all there is. There is no global setting for text size besides resolution. Certain apps sometimes have their own settings (for example, Safari has a setting for "never show font sizes smaller than XX"), but that's it. There's no way to "accidentally change" multiple apps. There's resolution and zoom.

You must have had your monitor set to a different resolution and not known it.

you can also use the touchpad and with 2 fingers starting next to each other move them away from each other to expand the size of everything on screen using safari, etc. Move them back together to return to normal size.
