Hello, when I was in a local Apple Store, I went to the control panel to change the setting so that the touch bar displays the function keys like F1, F2, F3, etc. However, on the non-touch version and older models of the MBP, there are icons which help us to identify what the functions key do. For example, F1 and F2 have brightness icons while F11 and F12 have volume icons. Is it possible to make the touch bar to display also these icons in addition to F1, F2, F3, ..., etc. like the real ones?

Why not just buy a nTB one then? the specs aren't terribly worse

Settings > Keyboard > Touch bar shows > Expanded Control Strip, then down in Customize Control Strip, you can change what appears there.

I was exactly in the same position as you.
I'm getting used to the TB, but I find it quite useless to be honest.

EDIT. Sorry, I didn't saw that you wanted to also have the F1, F2, etc...

Not sure if there are some "hacks" out there to do this.
At least it is not possible from default settings.

It is kind of stupid for Apple to only shows F1, F2, ..., etc. I don't remember which function each key represents.
