I understand that the Apple Watch (my watch is first-generation only) pulls weather data for the Weather app on the watch from the iPhone if the phone is in range. However, I read somewhere that the user can somehow set the Apple Watch to "preferentially" pull weather data directly from online sources via WiFi when the phone is not in range.
Right now, when the phone is out of range, my weather app shows no data on my watch unless it was recently synced with my phone to retrieve the data (at least within the same day, for example). One trick that works for me intermittently is to temporarily disable Location Data on the watch and then re-enable it after a few seconds. This tricks the watch to force-refresh weather data via WiFi. However, this is very inconvenient as one needs to do this several times a day.
Is there an easier "set-it-and-forget-it" way to always force the watch to retrieve the weather data directly via WiFi? For reasons too long to be explained here, I frequently would wear my Apple Watch without having my iPhone near me. Due to cost, I am not ken on upgrading to a S3 just to get this functionality working.
