How to migrate all data to new iPhone?

What is the best way to make sure I get all my data from my old iPhone 4 moved over to my iPhone 6? Is it as simple as doing a backup of the 4 into iTunes, then plug the 6 in and do a restore? Is there any downside to this or will this be bringing over any garbage system settings? Is syncing syncing the two phones with iCloud a better way than backing up and restoring from iTunes?
