How to move file icons out of the Finder window's top bar?

I was dragging some files from one folder to another inside the (Snow Leopard) Finder and accidentally dragged them up into the top bar of the Finder window itself. How do I remove them from this position? I can't drag them off because as soon as I click on them, they open. Sorry if this is a dumb question.
