how to move imovie files from external hard drive to hdd

How do i transfer my iMovie projects and events (all my movies basically) from an external hard drive to my new iMac's HDD. (My new iMac has an SSD and and HDD...iMovie is already pre-installed on the SSD and I would like it to stay there, but i want to transfer all the movies from my external backup drive to my new iMac's HDD).

Once someone tells me how to do this, can someone then tell me how do I "tell" iMovie that all my movies are on the HDD, not the SDD???

Open iMovie with the external drive plugged in. In iMovie, click on the drive's icon so that the Projects on it show up. Drag a Project and drop it on the icon for your Mac's internal drive. You will be asked if you want to transfer the Events associated with the Project. Click yes, otherwise you will need the external drive plugged in to view/edit the Project.

Can i do this with just events...i have no projects...just lots of events.
