How to Network between Macbook and Sony laptop

Hi ,

I have two laptops sony and macbook. Can someone help me how to do network sharing between these two laptops??? This way i could easy share files between two laptops. I tried to connect the networking options but my mac is letting me connect only to another mac system.I don't see any options for connecting to other laptops.
