how to not auto-mount external drive

so i have an external with 3 partitions, is there a way for OS X to not auto-mount one or two of them? i want to have the computer boot up faster, and i narrowed it down that they apparently slow it down.

and i dont mean to write a unmount script and put it in startup menu, because that would defeat the purpose.

look for the file /etc/hostconfig
change AUTOMOUNT=-AUTOMATIC-
to
AUTOMOUNT=-NO-

of course this turns off all automounting

edit: That might work. Not sure, can't restart my computer to test it though.
