How to optimize Mail on OSX Lion

HI..
We have around 35,000 emails on our Inbox and ever since the conversation type on Lion has came in, the Mail has been responding a bit slow.

And Im not used to slow stuff!

So, is there a way to optimize Apple Mail on Lion ?
