How to perform a cleansing format with Time Capsule backups

Hi -

So I have a time capsule backing up files from a 2010 27" Imac - I want to go ahead and perform a cleansing format on the IMAC and start fresh but I ABSOLUTELY dont want to lose Itunes/Pictures and a select set of documents.. I also have a Macbook that I could use to hold files on a temp basis.. What is the best / fastest / safest way to perform this operation with this equipment
