Someone just asked me how to do this. I have no trouble because I use "Logic". But this guy has just the software Apple ships with a new Mac. It seems GarageBand has no way to send MIDI to digital piano you might have connected. It does fine for recording but this guy needs to render a MIDI file to audio in the MIDI connected keyboard.

Seems odd Apple would have left this feature out.

Is there a way to do this without buying Logic Express? Is there any other low cost or free software he could get?

Hello Chris, do any of the software on this page do what your friend needs?

Mighty MIDI should work.

Did your friend set up the MIDI device in AudioMIDISetup in Utilities folder?

Thanks, I may even download and try some of those. But I was hoping that I had missed something, and Mac OS X had the feature built-in. It is really odd that it does not.

Routing MIDI between devices and files is something should should be built into the core of the OS. Actually it is but apparently there is no user interface that allows an end user to access the feature
