Hi
It's almost been three hours now and one can't imagine how depressed I am. I am depressed because I wanted to play 'avi' files and I tried Quicktime, VLC, DiVX, M player, Microsoft Windows Media player 9 for MAC, Flip4mac. Additionally I installed twice Perian, 3ivx codec... AND THEY ALL FAILED TO PLAY.

No lengthy requests... Can anyone really help me?

You can also try Movist, but it seems your .avi files use some peculiar and outdated codec, or are corrupted.

As a sidenote, .avi is a container for a vast variety of codecs like Divx or Xvid or some more unknown ones.

If you can find out what codec(s) your .avi files use, we can help you more.

If you have access to Windows and can get one or more .avi files over to that OS, try GSpot to analyse your video and show the codec they use.
