how to play gifs and with sound?

how do i play the jokes that are sent??? i get a smaal gif with no audio or the other way around?? gif doesnt work, only in preview. i got a 4s

Have things changed? If they haven't, GIFs can't play sounds.

Nothing's changed. A Gif is an image (or collection of images). No sound has ever been "IN" a gif. (as far as I know).


EDIT: It is possible someone sent a sound file along with a gif.

this is my first smart phone.. im talking about files that are sent (jokkes) with a background tune palying while the gif does its moving around.
my older phones popped up full screen with sound.
this iphone shows a small gif and a seperate audio file to click on. wen you click on giff, it shows a still image full screen. or if i click on the audio it plays that alone.
is this just an apple thing??

I've had the iPhone for a few years. I get jokes like that a lot. As far as I know (the native text app) the iPhone will not play the attached sound at the same time. You have to open it separate.

kinda not happy with all these apple restrictions. cant even get my own ring tones to apply to the tones on the iphone without voiding warranty and jailbreaking it.

You can make your own ringtones, it's a P.I.T.A but it's possible and won't void your warranty.

Do a search, I am sure there are threads on it.

Huh? You must be doing something wrong ... I have custom tones for everything.

It's not a PITA, and there are plenty of apps that will do it and add them to iTunes. I think I paid $.99, and I can make as many ringtones as I want.

I haven't done it with an app, but I'll look into that. What's the name of the app? I usually just edit the start and stop in iTunes, and save the file as a .m4r file. Is the app much easier?

Yes, much easier. I have RingtoneMaker from the Mac App Store.

I can view .gifs that are emailed to my iPhone4. I save to my camera roll then I can open them and save them as a .gif with GifPlayer.

I think he wants the sound to pay with the gif at the same time.

If you've had nearly any other phone besides the iPhone you may have gotten images while music or some other sounds were playing at the same time in the background. It appears to be embedded in the image in the text...though it is not.
