How to play video files from my camcorder!?

Hi,

I have transferred some files from my a JVC Everio camcorder (full hd).
The file type is .TOD, but I can play them when changed to .AVI

Anyway, the problem is - I can only play them without lag in windows media player. What is the problem? Am I missing a codec or something?

What are you using to change them?

If you are just changing the file extension, you should really reencode them using MPEG StreamClip to something useful, mp4 or DV (DV if you are going to edit them later).

I just change the file extension, but also tried MPEG Streamclip. However, I don't see there is an option for full hd 1920x1080 encoding?

Not for DV, but for MP4 and Quicktime there is.

No matter what I do, the files will still only play properly in windows media player. Why can that be?
