After recently purchasing a new MacBook Air, I am eager to make sure it is durable and remains in top shape for the next several years. One of my concerns is the laptop hinge becoming more loose as time goes on. I am wondering what your advice is when it comes to preventing this type of wear?

I always open the lid gently from the middle and don't push the screen too far back beyond its max angle

I don't move mine unless the lid is closed

Just treat it gently, don't pick it up by the screen and you'll be good for years

....... or bury it in sand .

Thanks for the clever tips you got. I'll definitely try to put the first one into practice more often since I do tend to carry it around the house with the lid open. That just sounds like an accident waiting to happen in the first place.

Good grief, it's a laptop with an aluminum shell, not a baby bird, you are carrying around.

I've had an 2011 MBA11 and now have an 2012 MBA13. I've carried both of them around, open, and lived to tell about it.

The hinge WILL NOT become loose over time provided you do not enter a Coney Island Laptop Opening Contest.

Try not to open and close the lid more frequently.

We have 3 MBAs in our family, dating back 6 years. Don't try and open the screen farther than it is supposed to go, and don't slam it shut. Don't drop it. Keep liquids 6-12 inches away from it. Do get a good backpack/case that is padded on all 6 sides for the laptop. Laptops are neither delicate nor indestructible. Be nice, and careful, it will last for years.

On my 3rd MBA 11". Never thought about this issue. I just use them as I see fit. Walk around with lid open all the time. None of them have ever become "loose."
