Here's the scenario: my C-Class Mercedes came with built-in iPod integration, basically an iPod cable in the glove box. This works perfectly with my iPod 5G. I now want to use this with my iPhone 3G and ran into two issues: (1) Power issues because of the well known Firewire/USB charging issue with the new iPhones (I resolved this by getting this adapter) and (2) the Mercedes is taking over the ipod's functions, meaning I can't change artist, skip, etc. from the iPhone, I have to use the steering wheel controls.
Because my iPhone will sit in a cradle on the console I want to be able to use its (much better) interface rather than the cluncky steering wheel buttons. SO I would like to prevent the internal iPod interface from taking over the iPhone's functions. All I want when the iPhone is cradled is (1) charging and (2) line out audio goes to my car's amp. Everything else disabled.
I suppose to achieve this I will have to modify the cable (cut some wires or rearrange things), which I am fine with. the question is: which ones?
Any idea or help on this would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
