How to prevent "Now Playing" reverting to Workout screen?

I like to know what songs I'm listening to, and by default, I will have "Now Playing" automatically active on the watch face with one exception. When I start a workout, every time I try to switch to "Now Playing" it reverts back to the workout screen. I don't want to look at the workout screen, I want it to stay on "Now Playing" - but there doesn't seem to be any option to change this default? Is there an option to have the watch stay on "Now Playing" during a workout?
