how to prevent volumes from mounting at boot

I have several apfs volumes over a couple of external SSDs that I do not want to mount normally when I boot.
After searching I found that this procedure on the Apple Community worked wonderfully for me on Sequoia 15.6 on M1 Mac.

If you know of a more user-friendly way to do this, please let us know, but this works!

you should edit the thread title I think, that’s a double negative there -> ›prevent‹ & ›not mounting‹. While it becomes clear from your initial post, search result will be off. 🤓
