It happens that you will need apple support while on holiday.
It was not easy I tell you.
There used to be an option to chat with apple support but it is nowhere to be found anymore.
I spend 3 hours yesterday clicking in circles to find the chat option.
Only option I could find was to call apple by phone.
All chat options is a deadend... all chat links in apple community lead to phone support or their support app which also only can use phone call.
If you have no phone or in my case if you can not use your sim in foreign country then you can not reach apple support through their support page (I can use my sim but it costs more than 10$ a minute just to receive a call)
I was lucky to get hold of apple through twitter but it says nowhere on the support page.
According to apple community it is up to your specific problem if you get chat or phone support and advice was to make up some imaginary problems in hope that problem would finally lead to a chat support!!!
It makes absolutely no sense.
If you are on holiday you better hope you have the right problem or will not be able to get hold of apple support.

When I travel, I carry 2 iPhones - one is on Verizon and the other is on T-Mobile.

The Verizon gets a SIM card change as soon as I land to get fast LTE data but also changes your phone number to a foreign number. I also use a VPN service to bypass the filters in some countries that block certain applications.

The T-Mobile phone never gets a SIM card, with free data access all over the world and retains my US number, thus continued access to services is as if I never left the country...

Only downside to leaving the SIM card in the T Mobile intact means very slow data (2G/3G) - but at least it's free.
If I need to make a voice call, I would connect the T-Mobile phone to my Verizon's WiFi (personal hotspot) as it supports WiFi calling...
